She began acting on stage before appearing in independent, mainstream as well as television shows. She was known for appearing as Miranda Shaw (ABC's Quantico) and on BET's huge The Book of Negroes. The series both received reviews, and she also took home a variety of prizes. She started her career acting in 1995, when she appeared as Ariel on the stage in The Tempest.
